As long as its been going on, I've been talking about it and sometimes make a conversation piece out of the situation with our water and peabody, and realize alot of our own people don't know what is going on, and as soon as it's ready to shut down they finally hear about everything that has been going on. It is sad to see the young, not really know of the situations that happen on Hopiland and pay most attention to the gossip in and around their village. I know that alot of the young and surrounding areas don't know much about the water run either, I myself have been going to different websites and posting the water run, if you visit this site remember that Hopiland is a place where the people worship water and without it we would be no more. Water is life.

Dear Friends, I am pleased to announce that our mission to deliver messages of peace and brotherhood through water is starting to get national and international attention. Everyone is invited to join us in spreading the messages to all humankind. You can do this with your prayers and volunteer efforts in getting the word out to your colleagues. Or, you can gift us with a monetary donation to help pay for expenses. We hope to culminate the historic run with a huge reception in Mexico City. We invite all indigenous communities to come greet the runners and celebrate. As of now, we have no idea how such an event can be organized and carried out, but we do trust that it will happen. We invite your suggestions. Right now, we are asking peoples from the four corners of the world to gift us with water from their lakes, springs, aquifers, oceans along with prayers. Send the sacred water in small bottles 6 oz. or less to our Hopi office:

Vernon Masayesva
P.O. Box 33
Kykotsmovi, AZ 86039

and our elders will bless it on October 22, 2005 here on Hopi.

Sincerely,

IN the 1970's, my parents visited Arizona and bought a wooden Kachina doll. Unfortunately, the Kachina was not treated with respect and the eyes, top of the head and tip of one foot are broken off. I would like to know a way to dispose of this Kachina repectfully, or I am willing to send the doll to anyone here who will treat the doll in the right way. I am not Indian, but I have always had great repect for Native traditions and way of life, so much needed now to balance out our world.

I would like to communicate with Bernard Dawahoya. I visited 2nd Mesa in the early 1980's in person when I met your partner and bought a bracelet, which I have been wearing since. It is 3 dawas with arrows pointing out. Originally I bought it with 4 dawas but your partner refuesed to reshape it for me. When you completed the bracelet you sent some turquoise and coral earings to me. I would like to request a ring. I saw the particular design of interest (about a $65 dollar ring at that time) at the east rim shop of the Grand Canyon years later. I will be happy to send you a drawing of what I remember. I sincerely hope you are well. Please contact me at your convenience. And thank you for your prayers.

For a long time my soul has been speaking about a journey to 'Indian Lands'. My heart is set upon New Mexico and want to spend there some time end of September till half October. I'm an artist searching for more depth in my work, talking about Mother Earth and the big changes we are facing. Indian culture inspires me hugely, because of their respectufl and harmonious ways of living within and with nature. I'm searching for a quiet place to stay, close to nature, not too expensive and preferably close to Indian villages. Could anyone help me finding such a place - having suggestions, contacts......? To be a good leader, you have to be a careful person. The qualities of leaders were people that were careful. We talk about men who were raised by good women, so that they were respectful. They were careful in their attitudes and they were listeners. One of our traditions, a ceremony for teaching women, is to have four days and four nights without food or water. You sit still and shut up. The teaching was that, before you could learn anything, you had to learn to listen. The only way you were going to listen was to be quiet. When you learn to listen you learn more because you hear more than humans. You could hear from the earth. It is clearing your mind to hear what is out there and being open to the song of the universe. These people who would listen, who would take the time to understand something, before making a decision.

In this day and age ... we should advocate teaching young women all of the skills necessary for survival ... we have tribal or governmental policies that were sent down from the Bureau of Indian Affairs that say you need to establish a blood quantum to see who is an Indian. They tie it to governmental services. You have tribes buying into that, saying, "I am at least quarter degree Indian." We have no problem with adopting other people, bringing in new blood or new people, or marrying outside our people. We had citizenship. That is different than membership. I can be a member of the Knights of Columbus or the Klu Klux Klan but that does not give me citizenship anywhere. We need to get away from the notion of membership and laws that are foreign to our traditions.

I was wondering if anyone (siblings, friends, relatives) could send me any information on her as I would like to find out more about her life. I can't find any information that verifies this. Were there Hopi as far north as Pennsylvania or is this not probable? I can't find her in the census until after she got married. I have no other information.

Is it just me, or are more ancient findings appearing these days as if the earth itself was pushing them up out of their place, like a splinter in the skin, the body rejects and pushes out for protection? I am so sad when I go home, its not the way it used to be, my dreams my loves my religion, its slowly but all of the sudden quickly dissapeared before my eyes....

Hello, my name is Natalie Dawahoya. I am interested in contacting anyone who may be my relation. My father's name was John Thomas Dawahoya, Sr. His father's name was Thomas Dawahoya. I have met Bernard Dawahoya at my father's funeral in 2000 on the San Carlos Res. (He is my great-uncle) I think even Frank and Lester Dawahoya were there also. Anyhow, I am very interested in getting to know my Hopi family and more about my Hopi-side. I am also San Carlos Apache and Moapa Paiute. I have wondered about this side of me for as long as I can remember! I would love to hear from anyone who can help me get in contact with my family. Thank You.

I am doing a project on Kachina dolls and was wanting to get accurate information about them and I was looking to interview someone through email with a short list of questions, but would like this person to be fairly knowledgeable about this topic. Please let me know if you would be willing to do this. It would take little of your time. Thanks so much.

Breaking News
Administrative Law Judge Carol Brown issued the final decision on the Mohave proceeding, which has been before the California Public Utilities Commission for more than two-and-a-half years. The Commissioners voted 5-0 in favor of the decision, which provides that Mohave Generating Station will close at the end of December 2005!!! Whether it will ever reopen depends on whether outstanding coal and water issues can be resolved in time to make the power plant profitable to its Southern California Edison and its other owners. Said Mr. Masayesva, "The Hopi people have met many threatening situations more serious than closing Mohave and we prevailed. Leonard Selestewa, President of Black Mesa Trust, reflected on the momentous decision: "Much has been said-both positive and negative -about Black Mesa Trust over the five years since we organized. As Hopi people we have always known in our hearts the value and the role that water played in our culture and our way of life. It was here to Black Mesa that we were led long ago during our clan migrations to our homeland, known as 'Tuwanasavi,' or earth center. And those of us who call ourselves Hopi cannot deny this truth!! And it was we, Hopi Sinom, who believed in the serious nature of what Peabody has been doing with our water for more than thirty years, and it was we who demanded the issue come to a point of possible closure. I, 3rd Mesa Girl, want to congradulate the "True Hopi's on a job well done!! I soon hope that the Offices of the Hopi Tribe will follow. This is just the beginning!! Is'-Asqwali'!!! Hello Hopi people! I have been reading about your tribe for a few months now. What wonderful things you have done for our Mother Earth and in keeping with the laws of the creator. These days, everyone is enslaved by what society has become and some don't even know it. Your people held on the longest in North America. I wish they had been able to fight until today. I'm so upset about the state of the world and would like to do more to help save it. Peace and love to all of you. Lets pray for change.

My daughter from a long past relationship is learning about her father's family. She just found out that her paternal grandmother was Hopi and was taken from the tribe, sent to some school where she was badly abused. This grandmother is no longer living so informtion is hard to get. She wants to know more. Is there a roll, like the "Daws Roll" for the Tsalagi people that one can look up and trace ancestery?

I appreciate all information Water Girl. It will come to place when it should and we as Hopi must give all respect and love to our Creator. Sometimes we take life for granted but we have to remember who we are and where we come from. When we show respect and love it will come in return. There will always be obtacles in life but it will only make us stronger and wiser because all things happen for that reason. We as Hopi must continue to support one another and stop the negativity among our families. Sometimes we have to sit back and swallow our own pride and look within ourselves to see nobody is perfect. Be strong and take care of your children, they are the future. Anyway Happy New Year to all Hopi and all of the Native America as well!
